Unoriginal and uninspired May 25, 2010 The story fails in several levels:
1) The characters are not generally sympathetic or interesting. There is really no reason why anyone'd want to care about the main character.
2) The plot is not interesting enough to make suspension of disbelief worthwhile (and it needed that really badly).
3) The concepts presented are not new, and they don't really "gel" for me. Perhaps I need to be doing drugs while reading this to appreciate it, but I prefer to be able to function in society
4) The description of economies, acts of evil, and how one should respond to them are completely non-sensical. If this was deliberately cheesy (see old G.I. Joe or Captain Planet Cartoons), it might have been better. Since this is meant to be a "serious" story, see #2
All in all, it was a big enough of a waste of my time to make me angry enough to write this review.
Didn't work for me... Mar 31, 2010 Not much to say but felt strongly enough to give it a below average rating. Reasonable (although not novel) concept and story, just not told all that well, in my humble opinion. Enjoyed the early part of the book but the protagonist did not seem to grow and mature. I guess you could say I just didn't like him. The writing seemed more technical than emotional and I wasn't that compelled by the author's union of quantum physics and Eastern religions. I found the middle part of the novel to drag a bit, seeming to go over the same material again and again, but I pressed on through to the end and found, unfortunately, no surprises.

DISCIPLINE by Paco Ahlgren Jan 12, 2010 Not since THE FOUNTAINHEAD by Ayn Rand have I been so deeply invaded by a book to my core. Teetering the line between spiritual and the most eerie of Quantum sciences, the reader is catapulted into a world where anything is possible. Once you let go and surrender the guess work of what might happen next, you are free to experience a dimension of infinite outcomes and how our fragile human psyche might respond. This is not a book for those who follow the flock; this is a world where the most intimate convictions and comforts are tested. I find myself questioning ordinary events, a hidden meaning in the most seemingly mundane glimmers of intuition. Highly recommended to those who are comfortable with the uncomfortable.

perception... Jan 07, 2010 I really enjoyed the fact that this book challenges the reader's sense of space, time, and self. In the end it does a good job of bringing together a lot of philosophies and ideas that at first glance might not seem to be interrelated (quantum physics, music, chess, Eastern philosophy, financial markets). The economic and dollar related themes of the book are eerily similar to what's happening in the world today, which was enough to keep me hooked. I'm definitely hoping for a sequel and more insight into what a post-fiat currency world might look like.

Amazing! Oct 07, 2009 I push this book on just about every adult library patron that passes by. It's leagues above and beyond anything I've ever read - I've read it three times and discover new bits each time.
If you're looking for something original, this is it. (Especially if you're into physics, finance and horror.)
